Empowered Births, Parents and Families. Since 1999.
Our mission isto empower families to practice the ancient art of pregnancy, the art of birthing and parenting, to create resources rooted in natural therapies and traditions such as massages, herbs, preconception health practices, homebirths, water births practices and midwifery care.
Our work at True Blue Natural Family Resources is guided by and in service to the foundational principles that allow us to reside with one another respectfully and joyfully.
We find common ground that unites us in these principles:
We value the diversity each individual brings to world.
We respect one another, nature and the environment, and the traditions that ground our programs.
We believe in our client's natural body wisdom that also provides the guidance for us as therapists.
We strive to have each individual client function as an entrepreneurial spark of light having creativity and a commitment to realize his/her full potential.
Our NameThe colour blue is associated with spiritual enlightenment, calm and vastness. Blue is the color of sky and the sea. The play of light can change blue to its more greenish or grayish shades. However, the true blue is deep, free of yellow or black or white touches.
In the medieval period when all colours were given symbolic significance, blue was the symbol of loyalty, constancy, faithfulness, and truth. Very soon thereafter the phrase “true blue” arose. It meant: “faithful, staunch and unwavering in one's faith, principles, etc.”; therefore genuine, real. The phrase was subsequently taken up by various political parties, and lately by software and IT companies. This expression still has the same meaning -- extremely loyal or orthodox; even conservative (The Oxford English Reference Dictionary, 1995).
Our Company We bought our first tub in 1999 because we could not find one to rent. Since then we have grown as parents, educators and therapists. We both decided (or something decided for us?) to explore and learn about different types of bodywork massages, alternative health practices, and birthing alternatives including water birth and natural methods or supplements which enhance the health of the individual and the family.
In the last ten years our personal experiences have transformed our views and beliefs about what individuals can do to achieve personal freedom, to find a more satisfied, peaceful way of living. We would like to share some of our personal lessons and life experiences with you.
Our Value System
BALANCED LOVE LIFE - Falling in love and beginning a marriage has attributes of a romantic myth. However, a good and enduring marriage is a perpetually unfolding spiritual journey. If we understand marriage and the family as a spiritual rather than a legal commitment, we may eventually feel free to abandon our fears, and to finally learn to truly cherish and trust the other human soul we have chosen to spend our life with.
FAMILY LIFE - This is what we have learned from Sam Keen: “There is no better way to shatter our ego, and exercise our patience and compassion than daily practice within our family unit. We need no other mystical practices, no regrets for not being able to go to distant countries, retreats or meditate for hours. Our mystical challenges are our everyday experiences.” The bliss of our life enfolds in little miraculous moments. Our big spiritual truths, our strength of character, our integrity and our values have been tested daily while we are walking our earthly life with our family.
IMPORTANCE OF THE HUMAN TOUCH/ MASSAGE - Being massage therapists changes your outlook on life. We are truly a touch-deprived society. We do not kiss like the French or the Russians. We do not hug like South Americans or Africans. We keep our personal space closely watched all the time. If babies cannot survive without touch then those parts in us related to primal, deep experiences thrive on touch too. Touching improves immunity, eases pain, helps weight loss and all life transitions such as pregnancy and birth. Massage is also something more than simple touching. It is a therapeutic tool that makes us stronger, more open and more loving human beings.
KEEPING CLOSE TO THE "NATURAL STATE OF AFFAIRS" - The “Natural State of Affairs” includes among others: breastfeeding, healthy and creative eating, saying no to junk, processed food and microwaves (whenever possible), composting, reusing and recycling of toys and clothes, growing pesticide-free gardens with your children, simplifying and downsizing, car pooling or cycling/walking, investing in ethical companies, family reading and listening to the radio instead of television and (some) computer games, smart selection of toys and TV shows, nature walks and nature collections, singing, playing, sleeping, napping (lots and lots of napping), sun bathing and frequent daydreaming.
EMBRACING OUR BIRTH EXPERIENCES - Home birth could be a choice for every uncomplicated pregnancy. Recent SARS outbreaks in Toronto hospitals showed that maternity wards cope more easily when they have fewer patients. Hospitals are already crowded places. However, sometimes we stay, and sometimes we we have to go. If a mother is in a position to choose, she would probably benefit more from home birth (statistically shorter labour, absence of fetal monitoring, familiar atmosphere, freedom to move and, hopefully, a bit better food).
BIRTH PLANS and MIDWIVES - There is a certain amount of freedom in being able to make plans about where we are going to give birth. Even if birth itself turns out to be entirely different from our expectations at least we have made a conscious choice to be a better informed parent.
The wonderful luxury of having midwives for prenatal and postnatal care virtually free of charge is not available in most of the world. We should try to exercise our privilege, and make others aware that this resource is available and free.
To birth freely our mothers need strong and abundant feminine support that often cannot be provided through the extended family. This is why we also need doulas. Properly supported families have the opportunity to experience birth as a truly authentic, positive and very powerful transformational experience.
Thank you for stopping by.
Have a safe, interesting and happy journey. Warm Regards,
